Rahul Dravid throwing a chair? It may be hard to believe but that is what the former Indian batting legend, known for his calm and composed behaviour, once did after a heavy defeat.
Dravid’s wife Vijeta Dravid explained the moment when he lost his temper in the dressing room.
Narrating the incident in an article for ESPNCricinfo, Vijeta wrote, “Only once, I remember, he [Dravid] returned from a Test and said, “I got a bit angry today. I lost my temper. Shouldn’t have done that.” He wouldn’t say more. Many months later, Viru (Sehwag) told me that he’d actually thrown a chair after a defeat to England in Mumbai. He’d thrown the chair, Viru said, not because the team had lost but because they had lost very badly.”
The incident happened when England toured India in 2006. Team India went on to lose a Test match by 212 runs played at Mumbai. What made Dravid feel really bad was the way Indian team lost as the whole team was bundled out for just 100 runs, chasing a target of 313 runs in the fourth innings of the match.
Dravid, who was the skipper back then, himself contributed just 9 in that innings. With the loss, India also gave away the lead to draw the series by 1-1.
