On Friday, MS Dhoni‘s biopic, ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ released in 4500 theatres across the country and got overwhelming response from all corners.
Most of the screens were pre-booked as fans were desperate to get the first glimpse of the much-awaited Neeraj Pandey directed film.
The biopic depicts the India Cricket Team’s captain’s journey from a school kid from a small town in Jharkhand (then Bihar) to leading the Indian team to a World Cup win.
Most of the fans who watched the movie on the first show and shared their opinion on social media were of the view that for a moment, Dhoni’s biopic turned theatres into cricket stadiums. Fans were seen shouting and clapping when Sushant Singh Rajput, who is playing Dhoni’s role, walks down the steps of Wankhede Stadium.
On the opening day, the film raked in a massive 21.3 crores, way more than any biopic has ever earned in Bollywood history.
The movie is also the second highest grossing film on day 1 in 2016, bettering the likes of Akshar Kumar‘s ‘Rustom’ and Shah Rukh Khan‘s ‘Fan’. The only movie to have done better than ‘MS Dhoni : The Untold Story’ so far this year is Salman Khan‘s Sultan.
Taran Adarsh, a well known film-critic and biz analyst, shared this information on Twitter:
