Promising Karnataka batsman Karun Nair will replace injured Shikhar Dhawan in the Indian squad for the third and final Test against New Zealand to be played at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore from October 8.
Shikhar was ruled out of the third Test after sustaining a minor fracture on his left hand. He has also been advised 10-15 days of rest after being hit on the hand twice by Trent Boult‘s short-pitched deliveries in the second innings at the Eden Gardens.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee have named batsman Karun Nair as the replacement for injured opener Shikhar Dhawan in the Indian team,” BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke said in a statement.
The 24-year-old batsman compiled 500 runs at an impressive average of 50 in the Ranji Trophy during the 2015-16 season and has been a prolific run-getter in the domestic circuit.
Now, Nair and Gautam Gambhir are the two players in contention to replace Dhawan in the final Test match.
