In the 2nd ODI between India and New Zealand at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi, Third umpire Chettithody Shamshuddin was at the receiving end after he left the fans on Twitter frustrated by giving Ajinkya Rahane caught off the bowling of Tim Southee.
In the 19th over of the Indian innings, the on-field umpire Bruce Oxenford, who was slightly unconvinced after Corey Anderson grabbed a low running catch, decided to seek the help of third umpire Shamshuddin.
The soft decision made by Oxenford was out, but the third umpire could not get a conclusive evidence about the catch as the on-screen replays kept running for a prolonged time.
The fans were left dejected when Shamshuddin gave Rahane out without getting proper conclusion from the video replays.
This is how Twitteratis’ showed their anger over the controversial decision of the Third Umpire:

Third umpire needed concrete evidence to overrule on-field upmire's decision on Ajinkya Rahane ..but it was clear the ball bounced on ground

If Corey Anderson didn't know that he caught cleanly or not then How On field Umpire Bruce Knew that Rahane was out @cricketaakash 😣😣😣😣😫

Third Umpire gave a third rate decision and declared Rahane out despite inconclusive video. Anderson didn't pick up the ball cleanly.

Rahane was not out. The ball bounced. How the hell can an umpire give a soft signal from that far away?? #indvsnz
— Ashwin Jayakumar (@ashwinjk90) October 20, 2016
Don't understand the need of soft signal. When a TV umpire is not sure even in repeated slo-mo, then how can he judge with naked eye #IndvNZ
— vinay (@imvinay3) October 20, 2016
How can it be soft signal out when the fielder himself was not sure #indvsnz

Field umpire from 50yards is unsure nd goes to third umpire and gives the soft signal of Out. That's pathetic.. https://t.co/FpxaLGVMqI
