In the 3rd game of a 5 match ODI series against New Zealand played at Mohali, Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni created number of records.
Firstly, during the New Zealand’s innings, he became the first wicket-keeper in International cricket to complete 150 stumpings. Then, while Indian team’s batting, he completed his 9000 ODI runs.
When the Indian team had lost two quick wickets, Dhoni promoted himself up the order and played a crucial knock off 80 runs.
During his innings, he completed his 9000 ODI runs becoming only the fifth Indian batsman and third wicketkeeper batsman to reach this milestone.
At Mohali, Dhoni surpassed Ricky Ponting‘s tally for most number of sixes by a captain in ODI’s. He is now also ahead of Sachin Tendulkar‘s Indian record of maximum sixes in ODI’s- 195.
Wishes came pouring for MS Dhoni on social media as soon as he achieved these records.
Now, the latest entry in the list is of former Australian legend Adam Gilchrist, who is one of the only three wicketkeeper batsmen to score over 9000 ODI runs. Former Sri Lankan wicket-keeper batsman Kumar Sangakkara is the third one.
Gilchrist took to his official Instagram and congratulated Dhoni on completing 9000 ODI runs. The photo uploaded by Gilli will definitely win hearts of many Indian fans as it depicts the World Cup 2011 winning six hit by Captain Cool.
