In the final ODI of the series against New Zealand played at Visakhapatnam, the Indian players wore jerseys with their mother’s names behind their back.
Nayi Soch– an inspirational initiative was taken by Star India in collaboration with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to highlight the importance of mothers in our lives.
When Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni came out for the toss with the name Devki on his brand new jersey, Ravi Shastri asked him the reason behind the gesture and Dhoni gave a fitting reply to his question by saying:
“Mother’s contribution is as important as a soldier’s”.
After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, when Dhoni came out to bat, he was seen wearing the same jersey with his mom’s name on it but when he donned the keeping gloves, he was seen in his usual jersey with his last name printed on it, while all the other players were still wearing the jerseys with the mother’s name on it.
This is what raised questions among the minds of cricket fans, that why did Dhoni did not wear the jersey with his mom’s name during fielding?
Well! to make it clear to you, its not the first time Dhoni has not done this. Actually, the Indian skipper always prefers to bat in short-sleeves jersey and while wicket-keeping he likes to come on the field in the full sleeve jersey.
Here are some pictures that will surely clear your doubts:
