Jasprit Bumrah recalls the incident when he sledged AB de Villiers

One of the promising young fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, in a recent interview recalled the incident when he sledged Royal Challengers Bangalore and South Africa batsman AB de Villiers after the latter’s dismissal.

The Mumbai lad admitted that he usually tries to do his ‘own business’ but there was this one when he stepped over the line and sledged his opponent.

The incident occurred during Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bangalore match at the Wankhede stadium Mumbai in IPL 2014. Bumrah was still finding his feet in the T20 league while De Villiers was at his destructive best during those years.

After dismissing the RCB batsman, Bumrah couldn’t handle his emotions and gave him a mouthful when the Protean was on his way back to the pavilion.

“I usually don’t sledge. I try to do my own business. In IPL, I got AB de Villiers’ wicket and then I went crazy and said all kinds of things but he didn’t see. But he must’ve watched it on TV inside the room” said Bumrah in a chat show ‘What the Duck?’.

He also stated that he then received a lot of backlash from ABD fans for his actions on the field.

“So then after that, I got a lot of spanking and spraying from people that you know ‘what is this?’ ‘you are sledging AB’ ‘he is our God’ ‘who are you?’ ‘first play international cricket’ ‘what do you think of yourself?’. I realised people got very serious about this. I wasn’t even that serious. Then after that. I anyways don’t do a lot of sledging, so I was calm.” added Bumrah.

Right after the match, Bumrah apologised to ABD and tweeted, “@ABdeVilliers17 sorry for the behaviour. man anger makes me do stupid things”.
