MS Dhoni to be awarded Padma Bhushan on the Republic Day of India

Former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni will be conferred with the Padma Bhushan award on the Republic Day at the Rashtrapati Bhavan as the government of India cleared his name in the sports category.

Dhoni will be receiving this award along with Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu and chief national badminton coach, Pullela Gopichand.

Dhoni’s name for India’s third highest civilian honour, Padma Bhushan, was recommended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Dhoni was previously awarded the Padma Shri in 2009 for his achievements in cricket. In 2007, Mahi was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award by the Sports Ministry.

MSD, who led the team to two World Cup wins, is India’s most successful captain across all three formats. Dhoni led Team India in 60 Tests, winning a record 27 of them. He stepped down as limited-overs skipper on 5th January but continues to be part of the ODI and T20I squads.
