20-year-old South African batsman slams record 490 runs in a 50-over game

A 20-year-old South African batsman Shane Dadswell on Saturday scored a record 490 runs for his club NWU Pukke against Potch Dorp 1st in a 50-over game.

Eventually, NWU Pukke won the match by 387 runs, after Potch Dorp 1st managed to score 290/9 in their innings.

Dadswell, who celebrated his 20th birthday today, took just 151 balls to pile up the massive score as he smacked 57 sixes and 27 fours.

Four bowlers for Potch Dorp 1st conceded more than 100 runs out of the six who were employed. None of the bowlers had an economy rate lesser than 10. Dadswell was ultimately dismissed by Cobus Crowther.

Ros Brodie, who is a production assistant from Johannesburg was the first to share this news on Twitter.

She tweeted, “Insane batting in a 50-over club match in Potch. Is this ground the size of a postage stamp? And if CricInfo is to be believed, today is Dadswell’s 20th birthday.”

Famous Indian statsman Mohandas Menon confirmed the news as he shared the batting stats on his Twitter handle.

He tweeted, “A 20 year old South African batsman Shane Dadswell made a record 490 in 151 balls, with 27 fours and 57 sixes! in a 50 over club game. His side finally made 677/3 in 50 overs!”
