South Africa squad for 1st Test against India announced

The Proteas captain Faf du Plessis and pacer Dale Steyn have been included in South Africa’s squad for the first Test match of 2018 Freedom Series against India.

Both the cricketers were ruled out of the inaugural day-night Test against Zimbabwe because of a viral infection.

Also, all-rounder Chris Morris has been added to the 15-member squad.

Morris has recovered from a groin injury and will be replacing fast bowler Duanne Olivier.

However, there is no specialist wicketkeeper to cover Quinton de Kock, who has just recovered from a hamstring injury.

Quinton De Kock

De Kock picked up a hamstring strain in the Boxing Day Test against Zimbabwe. He is expected to recover in time for the first Test scheduled to be played at Newlands from January 5.

The South Africa vs India series will include three Test matches, six one-day internationals and three T20I’s.
