Rohit Sharma asks for lesser salary in interest of Mumbai Indians

The 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is still a few months away, but the recently-concluded player’s Retentions has already set the ball rolling.

The eight franchises made full use of the chance given to them of retaining their core players in a bid for a successful season slated to begin in April.

There was no surprise to see the teams going for their premier stars who have been associated with them for a long time now. Rohit Sharma was recently retained by the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise for the upcoming IPL season.

The MI team management decided to pay Rs. 15 crore for his services. However, it was learned that he could have matched Virat Kohli‘s salary of Rs. 17 crore, but chose to take the ‘paycut’ in the interest of playing for the Mumbai Indians.

“Rohit is a leader not just on the field but off it too. We have seen him dropping to No 3 or lower down the batting order at times only to bring balance to the side. And now, his selfless gesture only goes on to proves that he keeps the team’s priority over self,” a source close to TOI was quoted as saying.

Mumbai Indians are now left with Rs 47 crore in their kitty along with two RTMs, using which they have to build a squad around these three players in the IPL 11 auction that will take place on January 27-28 in Bengaluru.
